Cookie policy

Published · Updated

This version of bgtol.sbs does not set an advertising cookie and does not load an advertising or analytics tag. The choice you make in the banner is stored in the browser as local storage, not sent to us as a form. If an advertising tag is added later, it is meant to load only after advertising storage has been allowed, using the consent signals described below. We do not claim that a future version will be free of advertising storage. We claim that this one does not load those tags.

What is stored

Storage used by bgtol
NameWherePurposeHow long
bgtol-consent Local storage in your browser Remembers whether advertising storage is allowed. Essential in the narrow sense that it stores the choice itself. Until you change it or clear site data
Advertising cookies Not set by this version None today. The banner can record permission for a later tag. Not applicable today
Analytics cookies Not set No analytics tag is installed. Not applicable

Consent signals

The pages set a default, before any optional tag, that advertising storage, ad user data, ad personalisation, and analytics storage are denied. If you allow advertising storage, the page updates those advertising signals to granted. Analytics storage stays denied, because no analytics tag is in use. The function that would load an advertising tag does nothing in this version, and it returns immediately unless the saved choice allows advertising storage. That is the hook a later tag would have to use. It is not a tag.

How to choose again

Use in the footer of any page. You can keep essential storage only, allow advertising storage, or close the panel. You can also clear site data for bgtol.sbs in the browser, which removes the saved choice and will show the banner again on the next visit that can run the page script.

With JavaScript disabled, the script does not run, no choice is stored, and no advertising tag loads. The text of the pages is in the HTML.

The switch, in practice

Four states. One of them is “you have not chosen”.

  1. No choice yet

The banner is on screen. Until you choose, the page’s default is denied for advertising storage, ad user data, ad personalisation, and analytics storage. Essential operation of the page does not wait on that choice. With JavaScript off, the banner cannot save anything, and the pages remain readable.

  2. Essential only

The browser keeps a small record that you chose this, so the banner can stay away. Advertising storage stays denied. That record is not a profile of which guides you read.

  3. Advertising allowed

The same record notes the permission. The current site still does not load an advertising or analytics tag. Allowing the storage is permission for that category, not proof that a tag ran. If a tag is added later, it is supposed to look at this choice. We will change this policy in the same edit, not after the fact.

  4. Choose again

The footer control labelled Cookie settings reopens the banner. You can move from essential to advertising, or the other way, and save. Clearing site data in the browser deletes the record and brings the question back. That is the whole mechanism. There is no account to log into.
