How to use the list

Three ways through the same eight guides.

The catalogue is a contents list, not a ranking. Pick the path that matches the vehicle. Each path still ends at the sign in front of you, not at the last sentence on the page.

  1. 01

    A car, one day

Start with the network, then the car page for documents and the four speed bands, then charges so the vignette is not confused with insurance. If the date is inside 15 November to 1 March, add winter before you look at a pass.

  2. 02

    A motorcycle

The two-wheel page is the one that changes the speed table and the vignette line. Category A does not inherit the car’s 140. Fewer than four wheels sits outside the vignette fee described on the government page. Mountain notes in the winter guide still apply to the rider, because a pass does not care which licence category is on the card.

  3. 03

    Freight

Read freight beside charges. The line is technically permissible mass over 3.5 tonnes, not the weight on the axles this morning. Distance, euro class, axle count, and road class replace the car’s time vignette. Driving-time rules in that guide apply to drivers who are in scope of the EU rules, not to a private car.

Signs and planning

Whatever the vehicle, the signs page is the order of instructions when they conflict: a person directing traffic, then a portable sign in the carriageway, then lights, then fixed signs, then markings. Planning is where the five corridors keep their slow sections instead of averaging them away.

Not in this catalogue

No vignette for sale, no route booking, no plate check, no insurance, no transport. If a link leaves bgtol, the sentence next to it says so. The operator’s site is not this publication.
